Valley Classical Concerts is thrilled to have concluded another successful season of six concerts, all performed by internationally known artists and ensembles. We are anticipating that the 2024-2025 program will be even more exciting. More good news: we are back in Sweeney Concert Hall for all six concerts! Here is the program:
Sunday, October 20, 3:00 pm, Sweeney Concert Hall, The Israeli Chamber Project
The Israeli Chamber Project’s Pianist Assaff Weisman, violinist Carmit Zori, and cellist Raman Ramakrishnan will be on stage to perform Duos for Violin and Cello by composer/conductor/clarinetist Jörg Widmann, and Robert Schumann’s Violin Sonata in D Minor, Op. 121, followed by the sumptuously beautiful Piano Trio in A Minor by Maurice Ravel.
Saturday, November 2, 7:30 pm, Sweeney Concert Hall – The Ciompi String Quartet with pianist Ieva Jokūbavičiūte
The Ciompi String Quartet and pianist Ieva Jokūbavičiūte will return to our series to perform Mieczysław Weinberg’s Piano Quintet of 1944, a work of tremendous range and depth, sure to be a welcome discovery. Works by Mozart, African American master William Grant Still, and Elizabethan composer John Dowland will also be on the program.
Saturday, December 14, 7:30 pm, Sweeney Concert Hall – The Lysander Trio Zorman
The Lysander Piano Trio (Liza Stepanova, piano, Itamar Zorman, violin, Michael Katz, cello) will return. The program will include Beethoven’s “Ghost” Trio, to be followed by the warmly expressive Piano Trio of British composer Rebecca Clark and one of the great Romantic trios, Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 63.
Sunday, February 9, 3:00 pm, Sweeney Concert Hall – The Lydian String Quartet with pianist Jiayan Sun
Jiayan Sun, our remarkable Smith faculty pianist (and a great friend to Valley Classical Concerts) will join the Boston-based and world famous Lydian String Quartet for a performance of one of the greatest Romantic chamber works, César Franck’s Piano Quintet in F minor. Also on the program will be Haydn’s “Bird” Quartet and Kurt Rohde’s “seeking all that’s still unsung,” composed for the Lydian.
Sunday, March 9, 3:00 pm, Sweeney Concert Hall – Espressivo! Piano Quartet
Returning from our last season is Anna Polonsky, piano, Jaime Laredo, violin, Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt, viola, Sharon Robinson, cello. Classic piano quartets by Mozart (No. 1 in G Minor, K. 478), Brahms (No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 60) and Dvořák (No. 2 in E-flat Major, Op. 87).
Sunday, March 30, 3:00 pm, Sweeney Concert Hall – The Ulysses String Quartet
Sponsored by John and Pamela Hanold in honor of musical institutions everywhere.
The Ulysses String Quartet will perform Haydn’s “Emperor” Quartet, the Quartet No. 3, “Cetera Desunt” by Lera Auerbach (a major voice in contemporary music), and to close out our season, the warmly melodic Quartet in A-flat Major, Op. 105, by Antonín Dvořák.
